CHANGES IN AERONAUTICAL CHARTS

REF AIP GEN 3.2

1 Revision of aeronautical charts (ANC)

All the aeronautical charts series ICAO 1:500 000 (ANC) will be revised with effect from 16 APR 2026. Main changes are:

  • Changes to restricted areas
  • Changes to danger areas
  • Changes to TSA areas
  • Withdrawal of EFKT and EFKS AFIS service
  • Withdrawal of EFHK CTR SOUTH and EFHK CTR NORTH
  • Introduction of EFHK CTR
  • Withdrawal of (EFHK) VFR REP NOKKA, RASTI, DEGER and OGELI
  • Introduction of (EFHK) VFR REP HERRA, RETGI, ROQQA, TASQU and TEIJO
  • Withdrawal of model aircraft flying site Ruotsinpyhtää
  • Introduction of model aircraft flying site Säres Center

1.1 Updates on the basemap

Following the customer feedback received on the ANC 1:500 000 charts effective 17 APR 2025, the basemap used in the ANC charts has been improved. The updated basemap will be available on the ANC charts effective 16 APR 2026. The update concerns the following layers on the basemap:

  • Rivers
  • Lakes and seas
  • Open swamps
  • Fields
  • Power lines
  • Road network

For the 16 APR 2026 edition, these layers now originate from the National Land Survey of Finland’s scale 1:250 000 Topographic map instead of the previously used Topographic map 1:1 000 000. This more detailed source enables the depiction of, for instance, smaller lakes and fields that were not included in the basemap used for the ANC charts effective 17 APR 2025. The source data for the basemap has been downloaded from the National Land Survey of Finland’s Download service in June 2024.

The symbology of the road network has been improved. The more detailed source data includes the information on the number of carriageways, which now enables a more precise symbology of roads classified as ”Highway or other dual carriage road”. As a result, the symbols now correspond better with the chart legend.

Smaller roads, especially within major built-up areas, have been selectively removed from the source data to improve map readability at the 1:500 000 scale. In addition, the smallest roads, those less than 3 M in width, have been omitted from all ANC sheets except Ivalo, where the sparse road network makes it possible to symbolize them without reducing the readability of the chart.

Features on the other renewed basemap layers have not been reduced, but they are presented as they appear in the National Land Survey of Finland’s source data.

2 Changes to Visual approach charts (VAC)

Starting from the AMDT WEF 16 APR 2026, the VFR REP table previously published in the WAYPOINTS AND FIXES product, will be transferred to the VAC charts. The table contains the VFR REP name, coordinates, information on whether the point is mandatory, and any related remarks. The tables will be added to the VAC charts in accordance with the normal update cycle.

All Finnish VAC charts (except EFHK), have shown VFR point arrows indicating the recommended flight direction. These arrows will no longer be depicted. The removal of the VFR point arrows from VAC charts will begin on 16 APR 2026 and will follow the normal VAC chart update cycle.
